Successfully accomplished:
- Bringing together bipartisan government and legislative
officials, community leaders, businessmen and donors for
fundraising and awareness-raising events in the United
States and the United Kingdom.
- Bringing together hearings,
briefings, seminars and conferences in the United States,
the United Kingdom and the European Union.
I
wanted to write and convey my deep appreciation to you
for the remarkable efforts you have made on behalf of
democracy in Zimbabwe. Your high level of energy and
resolute determination have produced truly impressive
results in terms of the bipartisan support that you
have mustered for this great cause amongst members of
the United States Congress and within the Administration.
It was particularly impressive that the Speaker of the
House of Representatives (and other senior members as
well) personally attended the event you organized last
year on behalf of the Zimbabwe Democracy Trust. Of even
greater significance are the strong efforts you made
culminating in the passage of the Zimbabwe Democracy
and Economic Recovery Act (signed into law by President
George W. Bush in 2001). Your successful
efforts to bring to Washington, D.C., Pius Ncube, Archbishop
of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe, resulted in a personal meeting
between him and Secretary of State, Colin Powell, and in
a subsequent guest editorial by Secretary Powell published
in the New York Times.
From a letter written by the Hon. John T. Doolittle (R-CA)
House of Representatives, United States Congress Washington, D.C.
